Quick Bio

Richard Rossell Hembree (b. 1986) is an American composer. He studied horn at California State University, Fresno, where he received his M.A. in Horn Performance in 2013. Although he did not study composition, he developed a strong passion for wind band and chamber music literature. In 2009, he was a finalist for the Frank Ticheli Composition Contest for his work, Dreamcatcher, and in 2015, his piece, Atlantic Adventures, was premiered in Macedonia by the Con Tempora Wind Quintet. He has also held several premieres with the music department at California State University, Fresno, most notably Endgame in 2013 and Adventures in the Fields of Reverie in 2023, both performed by the Fresno State Wind Orchestra. Today, Richard continues writing music for educators across the Central Valley of California, and is currently the director of bands at Caruthers High School and a part-time hornist with the Sequoia Symphony in Visalia and Fresno Philharmonic (Calif.)
